How
To Play
You really can play LOBABLOB anywhere.
Inside or outside, at home, in the office or at the park.
Here's how.
1. Pick up the target and put it
somewhere in the house - maybe on the floor in the lounge room.
2. Players each take a blob, and
go to a room at the other end of the house.
3. Lob, throw, and bounce the blobs
towards the target and count how many throws it takes to land
on it. Your home becomes a maze to travel through, throwing
your blobs, while heading towards the target
4. When each player lands their
blob on the target, they write down the number of throws
on the scorepad. When everyone has done this the first stage
is completed.
5. A player then picks up the target
and puts it in a new place. This could be in another room, under
the piano, outside in the yard, or a kilometer down the
road.
6. Everyone starts throwing towards
the target again, counting the throws until they land on the
target.
7. Players write down their scores,
and the target is moved somewhere else
8. Keep going until you have played
10 stages. (Or less if you like.)
Add up the scores for each stage,
and the person with the lowest total is the winner.
Training
your Blobs
Older players can have serious
fun with LOBABLOB. With a bit of practice you can train
the blobs to behave the way you want them to.
Here are some hints for getting
your blob onto the target with a lower score than anyone else:
-
Lob it onto a hard surface
so that it lands perfectly flat. and it will stop dead.
-
Roll it in a straight line
on its edge to travel travel long distances
-
Tilt it slightly as you
roll it, and it will roll in an arc to get around obstacles
-
Bounce it off windows,
doors, or walls to get around corners if the target is
in another room. This is great fun and if you get
the difficult shots right, the other players will gasp
in amazement.

Roll A Blob

|
Place a coin on
the ground. Roll a blob so that it goes round and round
in a spiral. See who can make the blob stop closest
to the coin
Blobs can roll a l-o-n-g way. Try to
roll it further than your friends.
Roll the blob in a circle. Can you make
it come back and touch your feet?
|
Bounce
A Blob |
Place a cap upside
down on the ground near a wall. To try to bounce a blob
off the wall into the cap.
|
Handicaps
|
Put
a handicaps on the better players. Make them land the
blob entirely on the target rather than just touching
it. This usually means that they have to make one extra
lob per stage.
|
Splash a Blob
|
The
blobs and the target float. Play a stage in the swimming
pool. or at the beach. (Hint: have a scorer who is NOT
in the water :-) |
LOBABLOB race
|
Go
to a large outdoor area like a park. Put the target down,
then go to the other end of the park. (Or throw a FRISBEE
® which then becomes the target)
Everyone starts lobbing towards the target at the same
time, and the winner is the person to land their blob
on the target first. |
Team LOBABLOB
|
Two
or more people play in teams, and take it in turns to
lob their blob.
This is a great way for groups of people to play together.
LOBABLOB is a great ice breaker for people who
don't know each other.
|
Wash a Blob
|
If
the blobs get dirty when playing outside, just give them
a wash in soapy water. |
Hare and Hounds
|
When
you are playing outdoors, throw a frisbee as far as you
can, and use that as the target. When you reach it, record
your scores and throw the frisbee again to mark the target
for the next stage.
Try it the next time you are walking in the bush. |
LOBABLOB is for
EVERYONE
|
Elderly
people, and people in wheelchairs can also play LOBABLOB.
A nursing home resident told us "It's great!
- much more fun than the normal games we play."
A therapist found that
it was also useful for development of co-ordination
and motor skills in young children, and said it would
also be useful for people who are intellectually
handicapped.
